Gonorrhea - Recognise The Symptoms And Get Early Treatment
Posted by Elizabeth Campbell in Health
Gonorrhea, also known as Neisseria Gonorrheae, is a bacterial infection. It is also known under the name of “clap”, and many other names received in time. They are well to be known, no matter where they come from. Gonorrhea is a widely spread infection and the transmissibility levels are high. This type of infection mainly affects the genital area, meaning the vagina, anus, and penis, but it can also have a nasty effect on the throat.
It is a bacterial infection produced by the bacterium called Neisseria Gonorrhae. The most common mean for transmission of these bacteria is sexual unprotected contact with an infected individual. The possibility that this bacterium is transmitted is higher if the sexual contact takes place during the menstruation or right after the menstruation of the woman.
There is one important aspect of the transmission ways of the bacteria, that all of us should keep in mind. Not always this bacterium is transmitted through sexual contact, there are situations in which a healthy individual can contract the bacteria without any sexual activity or contact being involved in the matter.
The Neisseria Gonorrhoea bacteria can live outside the human body for a few minutes. So girls and guys, beware of trying on other people under garments. Using contaminated items such as towels, toilet seats and touching the infected genital area can be as lethal as an actual sexual contact.
If you have a predilection for erotic games, do not forget that these sex toys could be infected and can do a good job of transmitting the disease to you as well. Putting these items into the vagina or anus, not to mention an infected finger can already infect a healthy individual.
The mother can also pass on the disease to the baby during delivery as the baby passes through the birth canal. These are some of the other ways the disease can be passed on.
Gonorrhoea, if not diagnosed and treated early can have very damaging effects. It can also be life-threatening as it spreads to the other parts of the body through the blood and infect the other organs as well. Infertility, at the very least, is one of the permanent damages that this disease could do to an infected person.
It would not be easy to deal with a disease like gonorrhoea because it does not present any apparent symptom. So if you have even the littlest doubt in your mind regarding your physical state based on what you have been exposed to in the recent past, then you should not waste time in consulting a medical professional such as a gynaecologist, a urologist, or even a family doctor.
As an old saying goes, an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure. So the most ideal situation is for you not to catch the infection. Using condoms consistently and correctly is an excellent precautionary measure. You should also be extra careful when using other people’s restroom or public restrooms.
