As people with acid reflux disease know there are certain foods, which can actually aggravate their condition and so make the symptoms associated with it much more painful and uncomfortable. One of the first things a person needs to know is what acid reflux food to avoid if they want to prevent their condition from becoming any worse.

Normally once a person is able to work out just which foods are causing the condition to be aggravated they can either reduce their intake or eliminate them altogether from their diet. 1. If you have been recently diagnosed with suffering from acid reflux then you should start to reduce the amount of fatty foods that you eat or eliminate them from your diet altogether. Although hamburgers and hotdogs taste great they are foods, which can actually irritate your stomach and increase, the chances of an acid reflux attack occurring.

2. Next you need to know that there are certain vegetables that even though are supposed to be good for us when you have acid reflux can actually make the problem worse. The vegetables that you should be trying to reduce or eliminate from your diet are onions, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower and Brussels sprouts.

3. Also it is important that you actually start to reduce your intake of foods, which contain caffeine such as coffee, tea and some sodas. If you do not then you will cause an increase of gastric acid to be secreted in your stomach and which will cause an attack of acid reflux to happen. So before you drink anything look at the label carefully to see exactly what ingredients it contains and those with caffeine in them should be avoided as much as possible.

4. If you want to avoid suffering an acid reflux attack then you need to start reducing or eliminating foods that contain highs levels of acidity in them. The main culprits to be avoiding are citrus fruits and drinks such as lemons, oranges and grapefruits along with cranberries (especially in juice form). Plus also starting to reduce the amount of alcohol you consume which again has high levels of acidity can help to prevent the problem becoming any worse than it already is.

5. Finally, a person who suffers from acid reflux should be avoiding those foods, which contain any kind of spice or chili in them. Although you may like a good curry or a chili con carne these could further aggravate your acid reflux symptoms if you suffer from this particular stomach condition. Many people though have found that by eliminating such foods from their diet has helped them to bring their condition under control and reduce the chance of further acid reflux attacks occurring.
