Stop Smoking Cold Turkey - Make It A Landmark Day Of Your Life

Cold turkey method which refers to the complete stop of smoking is not easy. But the key lies in determination, with a serious effort it will be easier to do and will help veer you away from a life of smoking.
There are many ways of giving up the cigarette. Most people would prefer to do it one cigarette at a time. That would certainly qualify as the easiest method, but it would certainly not be the most effective. You do not actually count the number of cigarettes you smoke per day, do you? Reducing one cigarette each day makes no sense then. There could be very easily a day when you smoke an additional cigarette and the whole routine is disrupted once again
The best option to quit smoking, if you have the will power, is to stop smoking cold turkey. This means that you need to put an end to the obsession completely. You need to do it even if you are completely addicted to smoking. Thus, this method needs a great deal of willpower. This is very difficult method especially for chain smokers who are completely addicted to smoking.
It requires no mention that this method is a highly painful way of quitting smoking habit. It is not just the physical discomfort but the mental trauma also. Giving up smoking that too completely in one try is very hard to do. This is such a hard process because of the addictive nicotine content in the cigarettes that the body gets used to and starts depending on so on stopping cigarettes the body is abruptly thrown in a lurch and hence reacts violently, this behaviour of the body is known as withdrawal problems and it is because of this that quitting smoking is very difficult.
But the cold turkey method can be made more bearable while giving the necessary results at the same time, which is to lead a smoke-free life. Do keep in mind that it is not possible to achieve this in a single day, the cold turkey method is effective but not in a single day, because if that is what you plan to do it will get you nowhere. In fact it might react in the opposite way and make you get back to smoking very soon. The truth is that if you want to give up smoking through the cold turkey method then you need to do some preparations in advance.
You need to start preparing at least a fortnight before the day you decide to start going cold turkey. You have to consider that particular day a golden letter day in your life and start preparing accordingly. You need to adopt a positive approach towards life. Make small notes of the benefits you would achieve once you successfully quit smoking and all the other benefits which you can enjoy once you are done with the entire process successfully. And also think about the benefits to your loved ones. Make sure that you keep your body properly hydrated. Consume lots of fluids before you go cold turkey.
An evening prior to the D-day, make sure that your refrigerator is stuffed with enough celery and carrots. These would prove useful if you get an urge to smoke. Also make sure that you throw all your cigarette packets away and stock up food items which you prefer eating. Also, get good DVDs to catch up with.
Start the D-day with a small prayer and meditation for a few minutes. Just think about all the benefits you will enjoy if you quit smoking. Carry on your work like any other day. You will surely experience a number of urges to smoke throughout the first day. You need to make sure that you do not give in to the urge. Instead, munch the veggies that you have piled up and keep yourself occupied with other things. The craving would not extend for a period more than fifteen minutes.
Gradually, you will realize that your urge to smoke would have decreased with the passage of time. You will reach a stage when your craving becomes minimal and then totally vanishes. This is the time when you can be sure that you have reaped the benefits of your efforts.
